Teach teens computing: Computer networks

Welcome to Teach teens computing: Computer networks! This course will help you understand the basics of computer networking, all the way from the links that data travels across, up to applications that communicate across networks. It will also help you think about how you can teach this topic in your class.

Learning objectives

After completing these three modules, you should be able to:

  • Compare different types of data connections and network models

  • Identify the different layers of the TCP/IP stack and how they work together through encapsulation and decapsulation

  • Explain the need for protocols, and describe the different protocols that act at each layer of the TCP/IP stack

  • Describe how routers use some of these protocols to route data around the world

  • Contrast the internet with the services that run over it, including the world wide web
